2014 Mission Teams
Long Time Ministry Partner
Urban Ministry Electives
This is our 9th year of partnership with Hume SD, a high-energy satellite of Hume Lake Christian Camp's summer camp program. Youth workers are able to sign up all or a portion of their middle and high school-age students to serve downtown through outreach to the homeless and bring food to residents of low-income housing. Others contribute to New Vision's rapidly expanding food distribution ministry through service at Feeding America San Diego. We continue to receive stellar reviews from youth workers about the impact that three hours with New Vision has on their students.
New Ministry Partner
Day & Weekend Trips and Ministry Funding
Santa Fe has provided resources for our Christmas outreaches for several years. Student Ministries Director, Paul Lyons, was instrumental in arranging SFCS trips and using them to raise funds for a new playground. This project will expand New Vision's outreach to children, particularly those who wait in line for hours for food. $4000 was donated last year alone through Santa Fe student trips. This seed money has attracted other donors and we are $14,000 closer to the 50K that will be needed to complete a safe, commercial-grade playground.
Santa Fe Christian Schools is one of the top secondary private educational institutions in San Diego County. Students are offered a stellar academic program and the wide variety of extracurricular activities including mission trip opportunities. We look forward to hosting more Santa Fe students to serve here in San Diego on local urban mission trips for middle school, athletic team building, and in preparation for international trips.
Varsity Basketball Team Weekend Trip
Chad Bickley, Head Varsity Basketball Coach saw an opportunity to prepare his team for success on the court, not just to play basketball, but to stretch their character by giving them a chance to serve an impoverished community and reach out to the homeless. We had adventures with these guys... a highlight of which was a cross-cultural meal right out of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."
Middle School Weekend Trip
Principal, Dr. Todd Deveau wanted to see Santa Fe Middle School students realize their potential for missions, he reached out to us to help set a new precedent. The students answered the call and joined us for a challenging weekend of service, homeless outreach, and experiential learning activities.

Weekend Trips - Fall Urban Excursion & Winter Urban Plunge
CBU has been with New Vision from the beginning. Even while New Vision was a church plant that met in Pastor Pete's backyard, CBU groups came down from Riverside to serve alongside us. The faces of group leaders and students have changed over the years, but there are always familiar faces and willing hearts who come ready to see what God can do. CBU trips vary in emphasis. The 15-30 students who come each time are very flexible to jump into our most pressing needs. Past trips have focused on homelessness, disabilities, service projects, and our food distribution ministry. Their upcoming trip Fall trip lands on our Harvest Fest. This outreach to the community moves this year to North Park Community Park at the invitation of San Diego's Dept. of Parks & Rec.

Overnight Festival Team
Sarah was an adult leader for Big Bear Baptist mission team. These folks drove out on Friday night to spend all day with us on Saturday at the festival before heading back for their own Easter services. They were an amazing help to us both at the festival and on-site at New Vision where they helped to prepare our facility for Easter services.

4-day Urban Mission Trip (Mixed)
Porterville First Church of the Nazarene made a video of their recent trip with New Vision Urban Missions here in San Diego. Check out what their students and leaders shared about their urban missions experience at New Vision.
This City Connexx trip was packed with street outreach to the homeless community, serving breakfast to families of children being treated at Rady Children's Hospital, volunteering at our food distribution ministry and a related community partner, onsite service projects, team building/experiential learning activities, and a beach bonfire with New Vision's youth group.
New Life City, New Mexico
3-day Urban Mission Trip preceding Jesus Culture, LA.
"We brought a group of 59 youth and adults to New Vision last summer and had an amazing, eye-opening experience with urban missions. New Vision has many missions options and activities and they customized our outreaches based on how we wanted our team to develop and grow.
We scheduled our mission trip to immediately precede the Jesus Culture conference in Los Angeles. After time spent sowing into ministry with New Vision, the worship experience and the challenge by Jesus Culture to make a difference in the Kingdom of God were just fuel for the fire New Vision had started in us!
We return to New Vision this summer, knowing we've only scratched the surface of ministry opportunities with them. It is an easy decision, since the New Vision staff are helpful, accommodating, affirming, and inspiring!
"I recommend New Vision not only to groups who seek to engage in urban missions opportunities, but also to groups who want to learn how to implement city outreach in their own hometown."
Bless you, Mike!

Twice-a-year Weekend Trips (Fall & Spring)
For the last 5 years, Compassion Ministries in the Office of Spiritual Life at California Baptist University has enjoyed a partnership with New Vision Christian Fellowship in San Diego. I personally have led 3 teams in the last 2 years to serve with New Vision, and each experience has been a tremendous blessing. We have participated in various ministries ranging from moving furniture to loving on the homeless.
As a result our CBU students have gained a vision for God’s heart for people and have been mobilized to live the Gospel in their life contexts. One such example has been the start of a homeless ministry at CBU that reaches out to the Riverside community, which is 100% student led. However, the start of programs is not our goal, but rather the discipleship and heart impact in our students for the betterment of others through the Gospel.
It has personally been a pleasure working with New Vision, and I am excited for what God is doing and will continue to do in San Diego and beyond.
